Supplier statement on modern slavery and human trafficking

As a well-established healthcare recruitment agency within the UK and pursuant to the Modern Slavery Act 2015, Retain Healthcare Ltd are able to confirm we have a zero tolerance policy against modern slavery, This is covered in our safeguarding policy and staff are aware of the warning signs through regular training and inductions.
Retain Healthcare recognise that slavery and human trafficking can occur in many forms, such as forced labour, child labour, domestic servitude, sex trafficking and workplace abuse.

Key indicators of modern slavery include

Poor living conditions:

Victims may be living in dirty, cramped or overcrowded accommodation, and / or living and working at the same address
Few or no personal Victims may have no identification documents, have few personal possessions and always wear the same clothes day in day out. What clothes they do wear may not be suitable for their work

Restricted freedom of movement 

Victims have little opportunity to move freely and may have had their travel documents retained, e.g passports
Unusual Travel times – They may be dropped off / collected for work on a regular basis either very early or late at night.
Reluctant to seek help – Victims may avoid eye contact, appear frightened or hesitant to talk to strangers and fear law enforcers for many reasons such as not knowing who to trust or where to get help, fear of deportation, fear of violence to them or family.
Responsibility to the Organisations anti-slavery initiatives include


Our Quality and compliance manager is responsible for putting in place anti-slavery initiatives / human trafficking policies and regular review.

Risk Assessments:

Quality and compliance manager and operations director are responsible for looking at processes/ongoing reviews and actions in this area.
Investigations / due diligence; Department managers are responsible to ensure we meet our anti-slavery or human trafficking policies and are responsible for carrying out investigations should any suspected cases arise.


Retain Healthcare provide training to all staff to ensure on-going compliance in this area. Retain deliver this at point of
induction for all staff and at update sessions.

Whistleblowing Policy

Retain Healthcare encourages all its workers, customers and other business partners to report any concerns related to the direct activities. This includes any circumstances that may give rise to an enhanced risk of slavery or human trafficking. The organisation's whistleblowing procedure is designed to make it easy for workers to make disclosures. Safeguarding policy

Retain Healthcare have a clear safeguarding policy should staff, customers or managers wish to raise a concern under modern slavery and Human trafficking, the local safeguarding number is supplied in staff handbooks. Leaflets, discussed at induction and regular training updates so all staff are aware of the key indicators and what to do to report abuse or suspected abuse.

Recruitment Policy

We have a stringent recruitment policy which includes but not limited to:
  • Ensure all staff have the appropriate paperwork and legally able to work in the UK
  • Annual DBS checks for all staff
  • Thorough background checks / references
  • Clear policies and procedures
  • Strict recruitment policy and procedures
  • Whistleblowing procedure for all staff
  • Regular supervisions
  • All staff given company handbook with our safeguarding policy and their statutory rights such holiday pay / pension.
  • All staff from Directors to care assistants are trained to ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our business, we provide this through classroom based training to our employees.
