Job Description

Clinical Carer - Waking Night

At Retain Healthcare we are seeking a team of clinical carers, the ideal person for the role would be caring, compassionate, experienced within the care sector. You will be covering 12 hour sleeping night shifts on an ongoing basis to support an individual within their own home.

You will need to be in commutable distance to Chippenham.

This role is to assist with the daily living of one client within their own home. You could be offering companionship right through to providing support for clinical needs, (full training provided).

Working as part of #TeamRetain you will be an integral part of our care team, you will be supporting our customer in their own home and ensuring they are able to enjoy a good quality of life whilst supporting good health and well being. With the ethos to reable skills where appropriate. We will provide you with full training, followed by shadow shifts arranged with an experienced carer, who will help you adjust to your new role, and we have ongoing telephone support available for when you are out caring for our customers. We will continue to develop your skills through training and development to meet the needs of the customer.

    This package has two shift patterns, 08:00-20:00 and 20:00-08:00. Please note that night shifts are waking nights.
     
    The main duties and responsibilities include:

    • Remaining awake and alert for the entirety of the shift.
    • Completing regular checks for health and welfare.
    • Supporting the customer with their personal care needs.
    • Supporting the customer to meet their outcomes.
    • Supporting the customer with daily activities such as shopping, hobbies, attending appointments, accessing the community and keeping the home up together with domestic tasks.
    • Administering medication.
    • Use of moving and assisting equipment such as ceiling track hoists, electric wheelchairs, through the floor lifts, toto’s etc.
    • Encouraging independence where possible.
    Knowledge of spinal injury, autonomic dysreflexia, diabetes, stoma care and catheter care is desirable but if not, we can provide full training.

    Requirements:
    • Previous care experience necessary
    • 25 years old and over
    • Must hold a UK driving license

    Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • When required liaise with Social Workers, District Nurses and other agency professionals within the multidisciplinary team.
    • Contribute towards communicating changes of requirements.
    • Ensure that you work within the company policies and procedures.
    • Attending training and expanding your personal development
    • Assist customers as appropriate with their personal needs, such as dressing, washing, meal preparation and access to their community as detailed in the Care Plan.
    • When working within a customer’s home setting you may be assisting customers with, or where necessary carry out light housework, such as dusting, sweeping/ vacuuming carpets, living rooms/ kitchens/ bathrooms and toilets, polishing furniture using dusters/ mops/ equipment, washing and ironing clothing and bed linen, preparing and cooking a meal.
    • Following the outcome focused model, encourage customers to undertake personal care and tasks which they are capable of, recognising that their abilities may change, in some circumstances, on a day-to-day basis
