Support Worker

£9.00 - £18.00 per hour Pension, holiday pay
 

Job Description

Retain Healthcare are seeking support workers in Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Forest of Dean, Cirencester and local villages, to work a variety of weekday and weekend shifts - Days or Nights.

Retain Healthcare are a lead provider of experienced support workers. We are seeking people with the qualities to deliver the highest standards of care and support for individuals with learning disabilities including Autism, profound multiple learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge.

You will need to have a minimum of 6 months experience for this role and support people with social activities, day trips, sport, searching for employment or attending college. If you are talented, caring and compassionate we would love to hear from you.

    The service is a large retirement village with apartments and a central Shopping , activity , dining area. 

    Your duties will be callin on residents within the complex and assisting with all aspects of daily living including personal care, medication, general housework and companionship along with accessing the central activity center.

    We at Retain Healthcare are looking for confident individuals to work in a complex care package in Chippenham.
    This package has two shift patterns, 08:00-20:00 and 20:00-08:00. Please note that night shifts are waking nights.
     
    The main duties and responsibilities include:

    • Remaining awake and alert for the entirety of the shift.
    • Completing regular checks for health and welfare.
    • Supporting the customer with their personal care needs.
    • Supporting the customer to meet their outcomes.
    • Supporting the customer with daily activities such as shopping, hobbies, attending appointments, accessing the community and keeping the home up together with domestic tasks.
    • Administering medication.
    • Use of moving and assisting equipment such as ceiling track hoists, electric wheelchairs, through the floor lifts, toto’s etc.
    • Encouraging independence where possible.
    Knowledge of spinal injury, autonomic dysreflexia, diabetes, stoma care and catheter care is desirable but if not, we can provide full training.

    Requirements:
    • Previous care experience necessary
    • 25 years old and over
    • Must hold a UK driving license

    Retain Healthcare is developing a new model of care and support to people living at home in your community. This is an opportunity for the right person to shape and develop a new service and deliver care that provides improved quality of life to those who need you most.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

    • When required liaise with Social Workers, District Nurses and other agency professionals within the multidisciplinary team.
    • Contribute towards communicating changes of requirements.
    • Ensure that you work within the company policies and procedures.
    • Attending training and expanding your personal development
    • Assist customers as appropriate with their personal needs, such as dressing, washing, meal preparation and access to their community as detailed in the Care Plan.
    • When working within a customer’s home setting you may be assisting customers with, or where necessary carry out light housework, such as dusting, sweeping/ vacuuming carpets, living rooms/ kitchens/ bathrooms and toilets, polishing furniture using dusters/ mops/ equipment, washing and ironing clothing and bed linen, preparing and cooking a meal.
    • Following the outcome focused model, encourage customers to undertake personal care and tasks which they are capable of, recognising that their abilities may change, in some circumstances, on a day-to-day basis
